Build-a-Book Workshop

Workshop details

Franklin believes that a student's creative mind should be nurtured. He is an advocate of encouraging students who want to explore writing stories, love to write stories or lack the confidence to write stories. In the spirit of creating a fun and enriching avenue for any student who wants to explore authorship, practice writing, or write a book, Franklin is offering the Build-a-Book Workshop!

The Build-a-Book Workshop is a way for Franklin to share his love for writing, and impact and empower students to be confident in their ability to write stories! All workshops are open to students in grades 6-12.

What is unique about the workshop? Students will build their own book under Franklin’s instruction! The workshop is intended to be 4 hours long however, it may run a little longer or shorter than 4 hour. If the student/parents would like to publish the book to Amazon, Franklin's publisher will assist in that process. Additionally, students have great potential to earn ongoing income from their published books. Throughout each session, Franklin will share his personal tips and strategies used when writing his books. Additionally, students will be introduced to the basic concepts of creative writing. Every step of the way, the workshop will be loads of fun with prizes to be won and a lot of friendly collaboration.

What is the focus of the workshop aside from building a book? In alignment with the focus of the Franklin the Helper collection of books, the workshop is intended to build students' self-confidence and self-motivation. Writing is an expressive form of communication that can aid in the development of social and emotional learning and awaken a creative mind. During Build-a-Book Workshops, students will write their books using pencil and paper, not tablets, electronic notebooks nor cell phones. The act of putting pen to paper activates areas of the brain that helps student increase their comprehension. It also involves more senses and motor neurons than when typing on a keyboard  (Oxford Learning, 2015).

The cool part about the workshop is students will have the opportunity to learn directly from Franklin whose book, Bullies Made David Cry, debuted as the #1 new release in Children's Christian Emotions & Feelings on Amazon! Franklin has also sold nearly 2,000 copies of his books since they were first published a year ago. Additionally, he and his books were featured on NBC Channel 5 News in July 2022!

Note: Franklin the Helper Children's Books, LLC will not utilize any of the books as part of the Franklin the Helper collection. The students' individual books are the sole property of that student.
